Despite the fact that the ProgPoW (Programmatic Proof-of-Work) algorithm existed earlier as well, until recently it did not generate such a buzz around itself. However, after Ethereum's decision to switch from Ethash to ProgPoW in the near future for mining ETH, interest in this algorithm is beginning to grow, and we may soon see more coins and miners using it.
The ProgPoW algorithm can be regarded as a successor to the Ethash algorithm with increased resistance to ASIC miners. Bitcoin Interest (BCI) was the first crypto coin to switch to ProgPoW a couple of months ago. In fact, BCI did not do it very well before or even after the ProgPoW fork, however BCI were the first to use it, and also published precompiled binaries of the original miner for ProgPoW.
Meanwhile, until recently there were not that many alternative miners that supported ProgPoW, possibly because further substantial optimization in terms of performance would not be possible for existing mining hardware.
TT-Miner is a closed-source miner, with a 1% developer fee, available only for Windows and running only on later Nvidia graphics processors. TT-Miner (TradeTec Miner) also supports Ethash, UBQhash and MTP, in addition to ProgPoW. According to some data, TT-Miner performs fairly well on various GPUs from Nvidia.
Progminer is a fresh ProgPoW miner that recently became available and still needs refinement for now. It is a reworked Ethminer, and the source code is available together with compiled binaries for Windows and Linux. Moreover, there are different versions of the miner for AMD and for Nvidia GPUs. So check before downloading whether you are downloading the correct version. At the moment, it is probably the best miner for ProgPoW specifications, unless you run into problems setting up its operation on your particular hardware.
