The Baymak District Court of Bashkortostan has handed down a verdict against two local residents. They were found guilty of attempting to sell drugs as an organized group and of laundering criminal proceeds.
A special financial scheme was used in the case. The couriers’ illicit revenue came in as cryptocurrency and was then laundered through conversion into rubles. The case vividly illustrates how digital assets continue to be used in the drug trade and the related money laundering at the regional level.

How drug dealers use cryptocurrency in their transactions
According to the investigation, the convicts worked as couriers from January to March 2025. The accomplices picked up the stashed batch of prohibited substances from a hiding spot whose address they received from the organizer. The goods were intended for further distribution across the territories of Bashkortostan and the Chelyabinsk region.
The criminal income amounted to nearly 400,000 rubles. The defendants received the entire sum in cryptocurrency. Such a payment model is extremely typical of the modern drug business. The anonymity of transfers and the lack of any link to bank cards markedly complicate the tracing of transactions at the initial stage. This was how the perpetrators hoped to protect themselves.
Cashing out into rubles and the money-laundering charge
A key element of the investigation was the fact of laundering the proceeds. The accomplices converted the cryptocurrency they received into rubles and sent it to their bank accounts. It was precisely this operation of transforming the funds that allowed them to be charged under Article 174.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, in addition to the charge of selling drugs.
The defendants partially admitted their guilt. The court sentenced them to actual prison terms and also confiscated a VAZ-2113 car for the benefit of the state.
