Что такое тикер (ticker) в криптовалютах?

A ticker (ticker, also a trading code or instrument code) is a short unique identifier of an asset used in exchange information. Instead of the full name of a currency or instrument, traders and trading systems operate with a compact code that usually consists of several capital letters. This format came to the crypto industry from traditional financial markets, where tickers are used to denote stocks, currencies and other quoted instruments.

In the world of digital assets, a ticker makes it possible to navigate quickly among the multitude of coins and tokens: it appears in trading pairs, charts, wallets and data aggregators. At the same time, it is important to keep in mind that the same code is sometimes used by different projects, so for accurate identification of an asset you should verify not only the ticker but also the full name, as well as the smart contract address if it is a token.

Understanding tickers helps avoid mistakes when choosing a trading pair and transferring funds. Attention to the instrument code is a basic skill that reduces the risk of sending assets to the wrong asset or confusing coins with similar names.
